Rogue River-Siskiyou NF says investigation underway following discovery of booby trap on Oregon National Forest
The Forest Service Law Enforcement and Investigations and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office are investigating after a booby trap was found on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest
The Forest Service is reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to the proper authorities.
The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest in Oregon temporarily closed one of its trails Sunday after a hiker discovered a booby trap along the route, the U.S. Forest Service said.
The booby trap, which consisted of a tripwire attached to a shotgun shell, was found on the Little Grayback Mountain Trail, near Grayback Road, the agency said in a news release.
The Curry County Sheriff's Office was notified, and the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene and rendered the device safe, the Forest Service said.
The trail where the device was found has been temporarily closed while law enforcement investigates the incident, the agency said.
The Forest Service is reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to the proper authorities.
