Russian Cup 2022/23: Arsenal Tula ends match with Shinnik Yaroslavl in a goalless draw
Shinnik Yaroslavl held Arsenal Tula to a 0-0 draw in the Russian Cup on Tuesday
Seeking to defend their Russian Cup title, Arsenal Tula began their journey against Shinnik Yaroslavl in the Round of 16. The match took place at the Shinnik Stadium in Yaroslavl.
Despite Arsenal Tula enjoying majority possession (62%) throughout the game, Shinnik Yaroslavl showed great defensive resilience to keep their opponents at bay. Arsenal Tula had several opportunities to take the lead, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
The best chance for Arsenal Tula came in the 75th minute when Evgeni Lutsenko found himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, but he failed to convert the opportunity.
Overall, it was a disappointing result for Arsenal Tula, who were expected to beat Shinnik Yaroslavl, who currently play in the second division. However, Shinnik Yaroslavl fought valiantly, showing impressive defensive organization. They managed to secure a creditable draw at home.
Tumen beats Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk on the road, ending 13-game winless run
In another Round of 16 match, Tumen defeated Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk 2-1 away from home.
Tumen took an early lead through Pavel Kireyenko in the eighth minute. However, Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk equalized in the 25th minute through Islamnur Abdulavov.
The winning goal came in the 55th minute, when Tumen’s Brazilian midfielder Rafael Santana scored a stunning long-range goal.
Tumen had numerous chances to increase their lead, but they were unable to convert their chances. Nevertheless, they managed to hold on for the win. The win ended their winless run in all competitions, which had stretched to 13 games.
Both Arsenal Tula and Tumen will be back in action in the Russian Cup quarter-finals, which will take place in March.
