Penalties dished out for Moto2 riders who collided in pit-entry
Alonso Lopez and Adam Norrodin both handed ride-through penalties following FP3 clash
Moto2 riders Alonso Lopez and Adam Norrodin have both been handed ride-through penalties for their collision in the pit-entry during Free Practice 3 for the British Grand Prix.
Lopez, riding for the Speed Up team, and Norrodin, riding for the Petronas Sprinta Racing team, came together at the entrance to the pit-lane, with both riders losing control of their bikes and crashing.
Lopez was able to remount his bike and continue riding, but Norrodin was forced to retire from the session.
The stewards deemed Lopez to be at fault for the collision, and he was handed a ride-through penalty.
Norrodin was also handed a ride-through penalty for his part in the incident, although this was later converted to a 3-second penalty after he appealed the decision.
The penalties will be applied to the riders in the Moto2 race on Sunday.
Lopez apologises for the collision
Lopez has since apologised for his role in the collision.
"I'm really sorry for the incident with Adam," said Lopez.
"I was trying to get into the pit-lane and I didn't see him. I'm glad he's OK, and I hope he can race tomorrow."
Norrodin, meanwhile, said he was "disappointed" with the stewards' decision to penalise him.
"I don't think I did anything wrong," said Norrodin.
"I was just trying to get into the pit-lane, and Lopez came from nowhere. I'm disappointed with the penalty, but I'll just have to accept it and move on."
The British Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, August 7.
