Lewis Hamilton Wins the Mexican Grand Prix to Close the Gap on Verstappen in the Championship Race
Hamilton's Victory in Mexico
Lewis Hamilton won the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday, October 30th, 2022, at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. Hamilton started the race in third place but was able to overtake both Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez to take the lead.
Hamilton's victory was his 14th of the season and his 103rd career victory. It was also his third victory at the Mexican Grand Prix. Hamilton's win moved him to within 12 points of Verstappen in the championship race with just two races remaining.
Verstappen's Disappointment
Verstappen was disappointed with his second-place finish, but he remained optimistic about his chances of winning the championship. Verstappen said, "It was a tough race, but we still have two races to go. We will keep fighting."
Pérez was also disappointed with his third-place finish, but he was happy for his teammate Hamilton. Pérez said, "I am happy for Lewis. He drove a great race. I am proud of the team. We will keep working hard to improve and win the championship."
McLaren's Strong Performance
McLaren had a strong performance in the Mexican Grand Prix. Lando Norris finished in fifth place, and Daniel Ricciardo finished in seventh place. McLaren is now fourth in the constructors' championship, just 14 points behind Alpine.
Norris was pleased with his performance, but he said that he still needs to improve. Norris said, "It was a good race, but I still need to improve. I am not happy with my qualifying performance. I need to work on my one-lap pace."
Ricciardo was also pleased with his performance. He said, "I am happy with my performance. I made a good start and was able to overtake several cars. I am confident that I can continue to improve and help McLaren win the constructors' championship."
