Guangzhou Open: Danilovic reaches final
Serbian qualifier Olga Danilovic reached her maiden WTA final on Friday after upsetting China's Wang Qiang 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals of the Guangzhou Open
The 21-year-old, ranked 123rd in the world, dominated the match from the start, breaking Wang's serve twice in the first set and three times in the second.
Wang, a former world number 12, had no answer to Danilovic's power and precision, and the Serbian wrapped up the victory in just 68 minutes.
Danilovic will face fifth-seeded Zhang Shuai in the final on Saturday.
Zhang reached the final with a 6-2, 6-4 win over fellow Chinese player Zheng Qinwen.
Danilovic is the first qualifier to reach the final of a WTA tournament since 2019, when Anna Blinkova won the Hua Hin Open.
The Serbian has been in impressive form all week, knocking out top seed Zhang Shuai in the second round.
She will be aiming to win her first WTA title on Saturday, and she will be confident of her chances against Zhang, who is ranked 32nd in the world.
