🎥 Galaxy thrash Colorado to take playoff series lead
Los Angeles Galaxy dominated Colorado Rapids in the first leg of their Western Conference semifinal, winning 3-0 at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday.
The Galaxy took the lead in the 10th minute when Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez headed home a cross from Julian Araujo. The Mexican striker doubled his tally in the 30th minute, finishing off a fine team move involving Efrain Alvarez and Dejan Joveljic.
Colorado had a chance to get back into the game in the second half when they were awarded a penalty, but Jonathan Lewis' effort was saved by Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathan Bond.
The Rapids pushed for a goal in the closing stages but were unable to find a way past the Galaxy defense. The win gives the Galaxy a commanding lead heading into the second leg in Colorado next Sunday.
Galaxy coach Greg Vanney was pleased with his team's performance.
"I thought we played really well tonight," Vanney said. "We were able to control the game for long periods and create a lot of chances. We're happy with the result and we're looking forward to the second leg."
Colorado coach Robin Fraser was disappointed with his team's performance.
"We didn't play well enough tonight," Fraser said. "We gave up two soft goals and we didn't create enough chances. We need to be better in the second leg."
The second leg of the Western Conference semifinal will be played at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado next Sunday, November 6.
