American Airlines Cracks Down on Gate Lice amid Rampant Airport Line-Skipping
Passengers who attempt to jump the line at the gate may be denied boarding
The budget airline Frontier is also taking similar action and implementing new boarding procedures
American Airlines and Frontier Airlines announced Tuesday they will attempt to crack down on 'gate lice' amid rampant line-skipping as airport chaos continues to wreak havoc on the travel industry. Gate lice are passengers who wait until the last minute to board a flight and then attempt to cut in front of other passengers who have been waiting patiently in line. American said it will now deny boarding to anyone who tries to jump the line, while Frontier is implementing a new boarding procedure that will make it more difficult for passengers to do so.
"We are taking this action because we want to ensure that all of our passengers have a fair and orderly boarding experience," American Airlines spokesman Josh Freed said in a statement. "Gate lice are a problem that has been growing in recent years, and it is something that we are committed to addressing."
Frontier Airlines spokesman Stephen Austin offered similar sentiments, adding that gate lice 'are a nuisance to everyone involved'. Frontier will now require passengers to line up in a single line, and they will be boarded in order. Passengers who try to jump the line will be sent to the back of the line.
Austin said that he is confident that the new boarding procedure will help reduce the number of gate lice and make the boarding process more fair for everyone. "We understand that people are frustrated with the current state of air travel," Austin said. "But we want to assure our passengers that we are doing everything we can to improve the experience."
