WTA Guangzhou Final: Caroline Dolehide vs. Olga Danilovic
Caroline Dolehide Storms Past Greet Minnen to Reach Guangzhou Final
Unseeded American Caroline Dolehide upset the odds to reach her second WTA final of the season by defeating Greet Minnen in straight sets in the semi-finals of the Guangzhou Open on Saturday.
Dolehide, ranked 129th in the world, produced a dominant display to win 6-3, 6-4 against her Belgian opponent.
The 23-year-old broke Minnen's serve four times and saved all seven break points she faced to secure victory in one hour and 43 minutes.
Olga Danilovic Downs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova to Set Up Dolehide Final
In the other semi-final, Serbian qualifier Olga Danilovic caused an even bigger upset by beating second seed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in three sets.
Danilovic, ranked 158th in the world, fought back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and 23 minutes.
The 21-year-old broke Schmiedlova's serve six times, including twice in the decisive third set, to reach her first WTA final.
Head-to-Head Record and Betting Odds
Dolehide and Danilovic have never met before on the WTA Tour, so their final clash in Guangzhou will be a first-time encounter.
Dolehide is the slight favorite to win the title, with odds of around 1.60 with most bookmakers, while Danilovic is priced at around 2.40.
Prediction
This is a tough match to call, as both players are in good form and have shown great fighting spirit to reach the final.
However, Dolehide has the edge in terms of experience, having reached the final of the WTA 125 tournament in Concord earlier this year.
The American is also a more powerful hitter than Danilovic, which could prove decisive in the key moments of the match.
Therefore, Dolehide is the narrow favorite to win the Guangzhou Open title, but Danilovic is definitely capable of causing an upset.
