When the Clocks Go Back, This Landmark Will Still Be Wrong
Big Ben's famous clock face has been showing the wrong time for over a century.
The iconic clock tower in London, England, is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. But despite its popularity, there's one thing that's always been wrong with it: the clock face.
The clock face is four minutes fast. That may not seem like much, but it's enough to be noticeable, especially when you're looking at it up close.
So why is the clock face wrong?
There are a few different theories. One theory is that the clock was originally set to the wrong time, and it's never been corrected. Another theory is that the clock is affected by the wind, which can cause it to speed up or slow down.
Whatever the reason, the clock face has been wrong for over a century. And even though it's been a source of frustration for many people, it's also become a part of the clock's charm.
What's being done to fix the clock?
In 2017, the clock was taken down for repairs. The repairs were supposed to take two years, but they ended up taking four years. The clock was finally put back in place in 2021.
The repairs included replacing the clock's mechanism and installing a new pendulum. The new pendulum is designed to be more accurate than the old one, and it's hoped that it will keep the clock face on time.
Only time will tell if the repairs were successful.
But for now, Big Ben's clock face remains a reminder that even the most iconic landmarks can have their flaws.
