Troy football earns share of Iota League title
Troy football team secured a share of the Iota League championship with a thrilling victory over the Irvine Red Devils on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans entered the game needing only a win to clinch at least a share of the title. They did so by dominating the Red Devils on both sides of the ball.
Trojans dominate offensively and defensively
Troy's offense was led by senior running back Jermaine Brown, who rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Sawyer Smith also had a solid day, completing 15-of-20 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown.
The Trojans defense was just as impressive, holding Irvine to just 10 points and 250 yards of total offense. The defense also forced three turnovers, including two interceptions by cornerback AJ Pierce.
The victory gives Troy a 7-2 record overall and a 4-1 mark in Iota League play. The Trojans will now await their postseason fate, as they are likely to receive an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
