Stellato-Dudek, Deschamps Disappointed by Performance Despite Skate Canada Gold
Stellato-Dudek Earn Gold at Skate Canada but Falls Short on Expectations
Team Canada's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier took the ice in their first event of the season, the Skate Canada International, determined to make a strong statement. The two-time world bronze medallists had high hopes for the event and were eager to put their training to the test. The free dance, however, was a different story. Gilles and Poirier made several uncharacteristic mistakes, including a major bobble by Poirier in the twizzle sequence.
Despite their shortcomings, Gilles and Poirier managed to win the gold medal. They scored 213.55 points, just ahead of Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen of Denmark, who took the silver with 207.25 points. Loicia Demougeot and Théo Le Mercier of France rounded out the podium with a score of 197.56 points.
Deschamps Finishes Fifth at Skate Canada
Keegan Messing put in a valiant effort at Skate Canada International, but it wasn't enough to secure a podium finish. The Canadian finished fifth in the men's event with a score of 247.44 points. The gold medal was won by Japan's Shoma Uno, who scored 283.82 points, while silver went to American Ilia Malinin with 270.94 points, and bronze to Kevin Aymoz of France with 262.75 points.
Messing's performance was a bit of a disappointment, as he had hoped to finish on the podium. However, he still managed to qualify for the Grand Prix Final, which will be held in Turin, Italy, from December 8-11. This will be Messing's second appearance at the Grand Prix Final, after finishing fifth in last year's event.
