Spikes, traps found on U.S. Forest Service roads near Grants Pass
Forest Service investigators are seeking information about the placement of 22-inch metal spikes on a forest road east of Grants Pass, Oregon.
The spikes were discovered on Monday, June 20, 2023, on Forest Service Road 4465 near Bear Camp, according to a news release from the agency. The spikes were placed in holes that were drilled into the road, and they were covered with leaves and dirt.
The Forest Service is asking anyone with information about the spikes to contact the agency's Grants Pass office at 541-471-6500.
Investigators also found two homemade traps on the same road.
One of the traps was made from a piece of rebar that was sharpened at one end and driven into the ground. The other trap was made from a piece of wire that was tied to a tree branch and then stretched across the road.
The Forest Service is asking anyone with information about the traps to contact the agency's Grants Pass office at 541-471-6500.
The Forest Service is urging the public to be cautious when using Forest Service roads.
The agency says that it is increasing patrols in the area and that it will continue to investigate the incidents.
The Forest Service is also reminding the public that it is illegal to place spikes or traps on Forest Service roads.
