Shedeur Sanders, son of Deion Sanders, to transfer from Colorado to Cincinnati
Deion Sanders' son, Shedeur Sanders, will be transferring from Colorado to Cincinnati, the younger Sanders announced on social media on Monday.
Shedeur Sanders, a four-star recruit in the 2021 class, started 12 games for the Buffaloes last season, throwing for 2,834 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Sanders is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who is now the head coach at Colorado. Shedeur Sanders was one of the most highly touted recruits in the 2021 class and was expected to be the starting quarterback for the Buffaloes for the next several years.
However, Sanders struggled at times last season, and Colorado finished with a 1-11 record. Sanders also missed the final two games of the season with an injury.
Sanders' transfer to Cincinnati is a major coup for the Bearcats, who are coming off a 13-1 season and a berth in the College Football Playoff. Cincinnati is expected to be a contender for the national championship next season, and Sanders will have a chance to compete for the starting quarterback job.
Sanders' transfer is also a blow to Colorado, who are now without a clear-cut starting quarterback. The Buffaloes will likely turn to redshirt freshman J.T. Shrout or true freshman Owen McCown to start at quarterback next season.
Sanders' transfer is the latest in a series of high-profile transfers for Colorado. The Buffaloes have lost several key players to the transfer portal in recent months, including wide receiver Brenden Rice and linebacker Nate Landman.
