Running the Marine Corps Marathon in Honor of Uncle Tony
Remembering a Fallen Hero and Inspiring Others
When I decided to run the Marine Corps Marathon in honor of my Uncle Tony, I knew it would be a challenge. But I also knew it would be a meaningful way to remember him and inspire others.
Uncle Tony was a Marine who was killed in action in Iraq in 2004. He was a great man who loved his country and his family. He was always there for me, and I looked up to him as a role model.
When he died, I was devastated. But I also knew that I had to find a way to honor his memory. Running the Marine Corps Marathon seemed like the perfect way to do that.
I started training for the marathon in January. It was hard, but I kept thinking about Uncle Tony and how he would never give up. I knew that if he could fight for our country, I could run a marathon in his honor.
On October 27, 2022, I ran the Marine Corps Marathon. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but I did it. I finished the race in 4 hours and 20 minutes.
After the race, I was so proud of myself. I had not only run a marathon, but I had also honored the memory of my uncle. I hope that my story will inspire others to never give up on their dreams, no matter how hard they may seem.
