Cougar Football Adds Another Piece to 2024 Class

Highly Touted Recruit Chooses WSU Over Several Other Offers

Rueben Mayes, a 3-star wide receiver from Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, California, has committed to play football for the Washington State Cougars. Mayes is the 12th commitment for WSU's 2024 recruiting class and the second wide receiver, joining Lincoln Kienholz of Spokane, Washington.

Mayes is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver who caught 50 passes for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior in 2022. He also rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Mayes is a versatile player who can line up at receiver or running back.

Mayes chose WSU over offers from Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and San Diego State. He is the first player from Bishop Alemany to commit to WSU since defensive lineman Hercules Mata'afa in 2014.

"I'm excited to be a part of the Washington State football family," Mayes said. "I love the coaching staff and the players, and I think I can make a big impact on the program."

WSU head coach Jake Dickert is excited to add Mayes to the Cougars' 2024 recruiting class.

"Rueben is a talented player who has a lot of upside," Dickert said. "He's a big, physical receiver who can make plays in the passing game and the running game. We're excited to have him join our program."

Mayes is expected to sign a National Letter of Intent with WSU in December.
