RC Lens stun LOSC Lille to stay in title hunt, Marseille slip further behind
Lens deepen Lille's woes to maintain title push
RC Lens continued their impressive Ligue 1 campaign with a 1-0 win over rivals LOSC Lille on Sunday, keeping the pressure on leaders Paris Saint-Germain and extending their unbeaten run to 13 games.
The victory moved Lens up to second place in the standings, just three points behind PSG, while Lille remained in fifth place, six points off the pace.
Sotoca's strike proves decisive
The only goal of the game came in the 26th minute when Florian Sotoca pounced on a loose ball in the Lille penalty area and fired home from close range.
Lille had chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past the Lens defense, which has now kept six clean sheets in their last seven league games.
Lille's struggles continue
The defeat extended Lille's winless run to five games in all competitions and increased the pressure on manager Paulo Fonseca.
Lille have now won just one of their last eight league games and have dropped out of the top four for the first time this season.
Marseille slip further behind
In the other Ligue 1 game on Sunday, Marseille missed the chance to move level with Lens in second place after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Strasbourg.
Marseille took the lead through Alexis Sanchez in the 16th minute, but Strasbourg equalized through Habib Diallo just before half-time.
The draw left Marseille in fourth place, five points behind Lens and eight points behind PSG.
