Pitt Leads Concluding the First Day of Competition
Panthers Lead the Pack with Team Score of 198.150
The University of Pittsburgh’s Panthers Gymnastics team put on a dominant performance on Friday night, leading the first day of competition at the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. The Panthers posted a team score of 198.150, giving them a narrow lead over the second-place Oklahoma Sooners, who scored 197.975.
Pitt’s success was fueled by strong performances on all four apparatuses. The Panthers posted their highest score on the uneven bars, where they earned a 49.625, the highest score of the night on any event. Pitt also had the top score on the floor exercise, with a 49.575, and the second-highest score on the vault, with a 49.425.
Florida, LSU, and Utah Trail Behind Pitt
Following Pitt and Oklahoma, the University of Florida Gators sit in third place with a score of 197.800, while the Louisiana State University Tigers are in fourth with a score of 197.750. Defending National Champions, The University of Utah Utes are in fifth place with a score of 197.575.
The competition will continue on Saturday night with the second and final day of competition. The top four teams after Saturday’s competition will advance to the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Super Six on Monday night.
