Ohio Man Indicted for Voting Illegally, Despite Dying in 2022
DA: Man Registered to Vote After Death in Clear Violation of State Law
An Ohio man has been indicted for illegally voting in the 2022 midterm elections, despite the fact that he had died months before the election took place.
The indictment, which was announced by the Cuyahoga County District Attorney's office, alleges that 63-year-old Kenneth A. Oliphant voted illegally in the November 2022 election. Oliphant died in August of 2022, more than three months before the election was held.
DA: This is a Clear Violation of State Law
"This is a clear violation of Ohio law," said Cuyahoga County District Attorney Michael O'Malley. "It is illegal for anyone to vote in an election if they are not eligible to do so, and that includes people who have died."
O'Malley said that his office is investigating how Oliphant was able to vote after his death. He said that it is possible that there was a mistake made by election officials, but that it is also possible that Oliphant's vote was cast fraudulently.
"We are committed to ensuring the integrity of our elections," said O'Malley. "We will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the electoral process."
If convicted, Oliphant could face up to five years in prison.
