Mustangs to face Blue Devils in the ACC
SMU to play Power Five opponent for the first time in 2023
The Southern Methodist Mustangs will travel to Durham, North Carolina, to face the Duke Blue Devils in a 2023 non-conference football game, the schools announced on Wednesday.
The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Wallace Wade Stadium.
It will be the first time SMU has played a Power Five opponent since the 2021 season opener against the Louisiana State University Tigers.
The Mustangs are coming off a 7-6 season in 2022, while the Blue Devils went 9-4.
SMU is led by head coach Rhett Lashlee, who is entering his third season with the program.
Duke is led by head coach Mike Elko, who is entering his second season with the Blue Devils.
The Mustangs and Blue Devils have never met in football.
The game will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2.
Tickets for the game will go on sale to the public in the spring.
