Plan ahead for road closures and delays
The Marine Corps Marathon is a major event that draws thousands of runners to the Washington, D.C. area each year. If you're planning to be in the city on race day, be sure to plan ahead for road closures and delays.
The marathon will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2022. The race will start at 7:45 a.m. and will finish around 11:30 a.m. During this time, several major roads in the city will be closed to traffic.
The following roads will be closed on race day:
- Arlington Boulevard from Memorial Bridge to Rosslyn
- Custis Trail from Spout Run Parkway to I-395
- George Washington Memorial Parkway from Spout Run to Theodore Roosevelt Island
- Memorial Bridge from Arlington National Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial
- 14th Street Bridge from Arlington National Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial
- Rock Creek Parkway from Broad Branch Road to the Lincoln Memorial
- Constitution Avenue from 17th Street to 23rd Street
- Independence Avenue from 17th Street to 23rd Street
- Pennsylvania Avenue from 15th Street to 17th Street
In addition to the road closures, there will also be rolling roadblocks along the race route. These rolling roadblocks will allow runners to pass through intersections safely. However, they may cause delays for motorists.
If you're planning to drive in the Washington, D.C. area on race day, be sure to allow for extra time to get to your destination. You may also want to consider using public transportation or ride-sharing services.
Public transportation options
If you're looking to avoid the road closures and delays, you can take public transportation to get around the city on race day.
The following public transportation options will be available:
- Metro: The Metro will be operating on a regular schedule on race day. However, some stations may be closed or have limited access due to the road closures.
- Buses: WMATA will be operating a number of shuttle buses to transport runners to and from the start and finish lines. These buses will be free to use for runners.
- Ride-sharing services: Ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft will be operating in the Washington, D.C. area on race day. However, you may want to allow for extra time to get to your destination due to the road closures.
