Lukashenko invites Austria to join the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has invited Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen to join the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism, which will be held in Minsk on May 9, 2025.

Lukashenko sent a letter to Van der Bellen on May 6, 2023, in which he noted that "the Victory over Nazism is a sacred holiday for our peoples" and that "it is important to remember the lessons of the past so as not to repeat the mistakes of the past."

Lukashenko also said that he hoped that Van der Bellen's participation in the celebration would "strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Belarus and Austria." Van der Bellen has not yet responded to Lukashenko's invitation.

However, it is possible that he will attend the celebration, as Austria was one of the countries that was liberated from Nazi occupation by the Soviet Union in 1945.

The celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism will be a major event in Belarus. It is expected that many world leaders will attend the event, and that there will be a large military parade in Minsk.

The event will also be an opportunity for Belarus to showcase its economic and social progress since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

In addition to the invitation to Van der Bellen, Lukashenko has also sent invitations to the leaders of other countries that were part of the Soviet Union, as well as to the leaders of countries that were liberated from Nazi occupation by the Soviet Union.
