Anthony Davis added 23 points and 15 rebounds for the Lakers, who snapped a two-game losing streak.
De'Aaron Fox led the Kings with 24 points, and Domantas Sabonis added 23 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lakers improved to 15-21 on the season, while the Kings dropped to 18-18.
James' performance was a reminder of his greatness, as he willed his team to victory against a tough opponent.
