Kraken Can't Escape Hurricanes Surge, End Homestand With 4-1 Loss
Seattle's homestand ended with a frustrating loss
Seattle Kraken fell 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night, the third straight home loss for the Kraken to end their homestand.
The Kraken came out strong in the first period, controlling the puck and getting plenty of shots on goal. However, Carolina goaltender Antti Raanta was up to the task, stopping all 14 shots he faced. The Hurricanes took the lead late in the period when Andrei Svechnikov scored on a breakaway, and Carolina took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Hurricanes extended their lead early in the second period when Seth Jarvis scored on a power play. The Kraken cut the lead to one when Jared McCann scored on a breakaway of his own later in the period, but the Hurricanes answered right back when Svechnikov scored his second of the night just over a minute later.
The Kraken pulled goalie Philipp Grubauer with over three minutes left in the game in an attempt to tie the score, but Carolina's Jesperi Kotkaniemi sealed the win with an empty-net goal. The loss dropped the Kraken to 10-14-4 on the season, and they will now hit the road for a three-game road trip that begins on Wednesday in Philadelphia.
