Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protégé adds to dominant run with eighth straight win inside the UFC
Chimaev finishes Li Jingliang in the first round for the eighth time in eight UFC fights.
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protégé, Khamzat Chimaev, has extended his impressive unbeaten streak in the UFC to eight fights after a dominant first-round victory over Li Jingliang on Saturday.
Chimaev’s performance has fans excited about his potential in the UFC’s welterweight division.
Chimaev, who is known for his aggressive fighting style and relentless cardio, overwhelmed Li from the opening bell, taking the Chinese fighter down within seconds and quickly moving into a dominant position. From there, Chimaev battered Li with ground and pound until the referee stopped the fight 3:16 into the first round.
The victory is the eighth straight for Chimaev inside the UFC, and it further solidifies his status as one of the most promising fighters in the promotion. Chimaev has now won all eight of his UFC fights in dominant fashion, and he has finished seven of those fights in the first round. His only decision win came against Gilbert Burns in a Fight of the Year contender at UFC 273, a bout nearly every observer had Chimaev winning, as well.
With his win over Li, Chimaev has now moved into the top 10 of the UFC’s welterweight rankings, and he is likely to face even tougher competition in his next fight. However, based on what we’ve seen from him so far, it’s hard to bet against Chimaev continuing his dominant run in the UFC.
