Jayson Tatum, Celtics beat Pistons, hit 10,000 career points

Tatum’s performance helps Celtics improve to 42-17

Jayson Tatum scored 34 points, including his 10,000th career point to help the Boston Celtics beat the Detroit Pistons 127-109 on Wednesday night.

Tatum reached the milestone on a driving layup with 8:50 remaining in the third quarter, becoming the youngest Celtics player to reach 10,000 points. He is the 10th player in Celtics history to reach the mark.

Tatum also had nine rebounds and five assists. Grant Williams added 15 points, and Derrick White had 14 for the Celtics (42-17), who have won eight of their last 10 games.

Jaden Ivey led the Pistons (15-44) with 24 points. Bojan Bogdanovic added 22, and Alec Burks had 18.

The Celtics led by just five points at halftime, but they opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 75-57 lead.

The Pistons cut the lead to six points twice in the third, but the Celtics answered each time. Tatum’s layup gave Boston a 99-85 lead heading into the fourth.

The Celtics pushed their lead to 20 points in the fourth and cruised to the victory.

The Celtics will host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night. The Pistons will host the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night.
