Israel Emergency Service Says Dozens Injured As Truck Hits Bus Stop
Jerusalem, Israel - March 10, 2023
At least 11 people were injured, including one critically, when a truck crashed into a bus stop in Jerusalem on Friday, the city's emergency services said.
The incident occurred at around 10:00 am (0700 GMT) in the predominantly Palestinian neighborhood of Ramot, in the eastern part of the city.
The truck, which was reportedly carrying construction materials, struck a bus stop where several people were waiting.
"The bus stop was full of people waiting for the bus," said Zaki Heller, a spokesman for the Magen David Adom emergency service.
"The truck hit the bus stop and some of the people waiting were thrown into the air."
Heller also said that the critically injured person is a woman in her 60s who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
"We are still investigating the cause of the accident," said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.
"We are looking at all possibilities, including a technical fault or human error."
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Israelis and Palestinians following a series of deadly attacks in recent weeks.
In a statement, the Palestinian Authority condemned the attack and called for an investigation.
"We condemn this cowardly attack that targeted innocent civilians," the statement said.
"We call on the Israeli authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice."
The Israeli government has not yet commented on the incident.
