Colorado Buffaloes quarterback J.T. Shrout will be the starter against Cal on Saturday.
Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell provided an update on the status of starting quarterback J.T. Shrout on Monday ahead of the Buffaloes' game this weekend against Cal. Dorrell indicated the junior has practiced with no limitations this week and will start against the Golden Bears on Saturday.
Shrout was injured in the fourth quarter of Colorado's Week 1 loss against TCU and missed the team's Week 2 game against Air Force. Brendon Lewis started the game against the Falcons and struggled, as the Buffs ultimately fell, 41-10, in Colorado Springs.
Shrout has practiced with no limitations this week.
Dorrell discussed the quarterback situation on Monday and revealed that while Shrout had not been able to throw the football very much last week, he got a lot of work in during the team's practices this week.
Shrout is coming off one of the best seasons of his career in 2021. In 13 games, the Tennessee transfer completed 59.8% of his passes for 2,402 yards, with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed 118 times for 633 yards and seven touchdowns, the most by a Power Five quarterback last year.
Dorrell declared Shrout the starter against Cal.
When Dorrell was asked Monday who would be the starting quarterback against the Golden Bears, he didn't hesitate to provide an answer.
"J.T. Shrout is our starting quarterback," Dorrell said. "He's practiced well; he's healthy. He looked very good today in terms of his decision-making and delivery of the football, so he's our starter."
Shrout helped lead the Buffs to a 4-0 start last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the team's Week 4 game against Arizona State.
