Feast day

Praskovya Friday is a women's holiday. On this day, women had to do flax processing: crush, comb, spin. According to popular belief, if a woman spins a lot on this day, then her family will always have a lot of linen.

Women also prayed to Saint Paraskeva to protect the family from evil spirits, diseases, and various misfortunes.

Dirt and filth

The holiday is also called Gryaznikha because by this time, as a rule, the weather was getting worse, and dirt and mud appeared on the roads. Therefore, they tried not to go out of the house once again on this day. And if there was a need to go out somewhere, they put on old clothes so as not to get dirty.

If the first snow falls on this day, then winter will come in late November.

If there is no snow, and the weather is good, then winter will come only in early December.

If the trees are covered with frost, then there will be severe frosts at Christmas.

If the raven croaks loudly, then there will be a thaw.

If the titmouse squeaks in the morning, then the day will be frosty.

If the bullfinch sings, then it will be warm.

If the smoke from the chimney goes straight up, then it will be clear tomorrow.
