Dolehide Saves Four Match Points, Reaches Guangzhou Final
American teenager Claire Liu stuns No.2 seed Zhang Shuai
American teenager Claire Liu continued her impressive run at the WTA Guangzhou Open on Saturday, upsetting second seed Zhang Shuai 7-5, 6-2 to reach the final.
The 19-year-old Liu, ranked 117th in the world, saved four match points in the first set before coming back from 2-5 down in the second set to seal the victory.
Liu will face another Chinese player, Wang Qiang, in the final on Sunday.
Wang, ranked 28th in the world, advanced to the final with a 6-2, 6-4 win over American Christina McHale.
Liu saves four match points in first set
Liu started the match strongly, breaking Zhang's serve in the first game.
However, Zhang broke back in the fourth game and the two players traded breaks until Liu served for the set at 5-4.
Zhang had four match points on Liu's serve, but the American saved them all and eventually won the set 7-5.
Liu comes back from 2-5 down in second set
Zhang broke Liu's serve in the first game of the second set and took a 5-2 lead.
However, Liu refused to give up and won the next four games to take the set 6-2.
Liu will now face Wang Qiang in the final on Sunday.
Wang advances to final with win over McHale
Wang started the match strongly, breaking McHale's serve in the first game.
Wang held her serve throughout the first set and broke McHale's serve again in the eighth game to take the set 6-2.
Wang continued to dominate in the second set, breaking McHale's serve in the third game and again in the seventh game to win the set 6-4.
Wang will now face Claire Liu in the final on Sunday.
