Cruz Azul, Club Universidad Nacional Fought to a 0-0 Draw in Liga MX

A Capital Clash Ends in a Stalemate

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, two of Mexico's most storied clubs, Cruz Azul and Club Universidad Nacional (UNAM), played to a 0-0 draw in a highly anticipated Liga MX match. The match, played at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, featured end-to-end action but neither side could find the back of the net.

A Match of Missed Opportunities

Both Cruz Azul and UNAM had their chances to win the match, but neither team could capitalize on their opportunities. Cruz Azul had the better of the chances in the first half, with Uriel Antuna and Carlos Rodriguez both coming close to scoring. However, UNAM goalkeeper Julio Gonzalez was in inspired form and made a number of key saves to keep his team in the match.

UNAM came out stronger in the second half and had the better chances to win the match. Diogo and Juan Dinenno both had good chances to score, but they were unable to beat Cruz Azul goalkeeper Jesus Corona. Cruz Azul had a late chance to win the match when Antuna was played through on goal, but he was unable to beat Gonzalez.

A Point Each

The draw leaves Cruz Azul in fourth place in the Liga MX standings, while UNAM remains in sixth place. Both teams will be disappointed not to have won the match, but they will be pleased to have taken a point from a difficult opponent.

Looking Ahead

Cruz Azul will next be in action on Wednesday, August 16, when they host Queretaro in the Copa MX. UNAM will next be in action on Saturday, August 19, when they host Club America in the Liga MX.
