Colts Cut K Spencer Shrader Again
Indianapolis Colts have released kicker Spencer Shrader for the second time this season.
The Indianapolis Colts have released kicker Spencer Shrader for the second time this season, the team announced Monday. Shrader was originally signed by the Colts in August after Rodrigo Blankenship was placed on injured reserve. He was released in September but re-signed in October after Blankenship was placed on injured reserve again. Shrader appeared in two games for the Colts this season, making one field goal and one extra point.
Shrader had a successful college career at Mississippi State but has struggled in the NFL.
Shrader was a standout kicker at Mississippi State, where he made 80.6% of his field goals and 94.4% of his extra points. He also handled kickoff duties for the Bulldogs, averaging 64.3 yards per kick. However, Shrader has not been able to find the same success in the NFL. He has made just 60% of his field goals and 80% of his extra points in his career.
The Colts are now looking for their third kicker of the season. They could turn to undrafted free agent Jake Verity, who was signed to the practice squad in September. Verity has never kicked in an NFL game, but he was a standout kicker at East Carolina, where he made 83.3% of his field goals and 95.2% of his extra points.
