BBNBA: Anthony Davis garners MVP chants with stellar performance in season-opener
Los Angeles Lakers star forward Anthony Davis put on a dominant display in the team's season-opening victory over the Golden State Warriors, leading the team in scoring and rebounding while also showcasing his defensive prowess.
Davis finished the game with 30 points, 23 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 5 blocks, a stat line that has only been achieved by a handful of players in NBA history. He was also a key contributor on the defensive end, helping to limit the Warriors to just 99 points on the night.
The Lakers got off to a slow start in the game, trailing by as many as 13 points in the first half. However, Davis helped to spark a second-half comeback, scoring 16 points in the third quarter to help the Lakers take a lead that they would not relinquish.
Davis' performance was particularly impressive considering that he was playing in his first game since suffering a sprained MCL in the preseason. He showed no signs of rust, however, and looked like the same player who was a key part of the Lakers' championship run last season.
The Lakers will be hoping that Davis can continue to play at a high level throughout the season. If he can, they will be a major contender for the NBA championship.
