Baker Mayfield 'extremely confident' in Buccaneers' remaining receivers after Godwin, Evans injuries
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is confident in the team's remaining receiving corps despite injuries to Chris Godwin and Mike Evans.
Godwin suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, while Evans left the game with a calf injury. Both players are expected to miss significant time.
Mayfield, who was acquired by the Buccaneers in a trade with the Carolina Panthers on July 6, said he is confident in the team's remaining receivers, which include Julio Jones, Breshad Perriman, and Scotty Miller.
"I'm extremely confident in the guys we have in that room," Mayfield said. "We've got a lot of talented guys who can make plays."
Mayfield said he has been impressed with Jones, who signed with the Buccaneers as a free agent in March.
"Julio is a special player," Mayfield said. "He's one of the best receivers in the league, and he's still got a lot left in the tank.
"He's a big target, he's physical, and he can make plays all over the field."
Mayfield also said he is excited to work with Perriman and Miller.
"Breshad is a speedster," Mayfield said. "He can stretch the field and make big plays.
"Scotty is a shifty slot receiver who can make things happen after the catch."
Despite the injuries to Godwin and Evans, Mayfield said he is confident in the Buccaneers' offense.
"We've got a lot of weapons on this team," Mayfield said. "We're going to be fine."
