AS Monaco and OGC Nice grabbed victories in the final Ligue 1 matches of 2022 on Wednesday, extending their unbeaten runs and moving up the standings.
Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice as Monaco beat visiting Lorient 2-1, while Nice edged visiting Auxerre 1-0, thanks to Andy Delort's first-half goal.
Monaco remained fourth, one point behind third-place Lens, which has a game in hand. Nice is one point further back in fifth.
Monaco wins sixth straight
Ben Yedder gave Monaco an early lead with a penalty in the sixth minute in a match it dominated from start to finish.
The France forward missed a chance to make it 2-0 from the spot in the 35th minute, but he converted his second penalty in the 58th after VAR ruled that he had been fouled by Montassar Talbi.
Lorient pulled one back through Ibrahima Kone in the 78th, but Monaco held on for a sixth straight win in all competitions.
Nice edges Auxerre
Delort scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute, heading home from close range after a cross from Calvin Stengs.
Auxerre had a chance to level before halftime, but Gaetan Perrin's effort was ruled out for offside by VAR.
Nice could have doubled its lead in the second half, but Billal Brahimi and Stengs both missed good chances.

Ligue 1 resumes on Jan. 1 with Lens hosting Brest and Lille traveling to Clermont.
